How to Keep Calm and Party!

As if one new recent product launch wasn’t enough (as revealed in last week’s blog about our Dear Zoo party pieces) we’ve made another fab addition to our range.  From the end of this month you’ll be able to get your hands of some colourful, witty party-ware, ideal for adding a touch of originality to grown-up parties. Taking the popular ‘Keep Calm’ motif as its inspiration, our new range has a colourful, irreverent vibe, making it perfect for grown-up celebrations, from 40th birthday parties to wedding anniversaries.

The ‘Keep Calm’ phrase has its origins in the Second World War, when the instruction was emblazoned across propaganda posters created by the British Government with the aim of raising morale amongst the public. In fact, the poster wasn’t actually widely used in the end, and remained hidden in dusty archives until it re-emerged in the year 2000 and was used as decorative theme for all kinds of products, from mugs to tea-towels. When we began thinking about creating a new range, designed with grown-up parties in mind, we kept coming back to the Keep Calm concept, and we’re delighted with how well the idea has transferred to party ware.  It’s cheeky without being naff and taps into our modern-day love affair with all things retro.

Featuring the instantly recognisable crown motif and Keep Calm wording, we’ve added suitable instructions onto each piece;  paper cups invite guests to ‘drink up’, while ice-cream tubs say ‘& keep cool’, for example. The range also features paper plates, napkins, glass markers and glass cards, while you can continue the theme across your room décor using our suitably old school-style strings of paper bunting and paperchains, which come in two colourways. Add some finishing touches in the shape of balloons and party bubbles, or take a look at the chalkboard signs and place names that feature in our Vintage Rose range. They have a retro feel that sits well with the pieces in our Keep Calm range.  Alternatively add in some red or blue table crystals, which add some extra pizzazz to your table setting.  These mix-and-match pieces provide a really original way to add a pop of colour to your party and lend themselves to all kinds of occasions, whether you’re celebrating a retirement or a hen party, an anniversary or a significant birthday.

If you want to go all out and continue the retro theme with your party how about serving up food with a nostalgic, post-war feel? Daytime gatherings – a garden party, for example – lend themselves perfectly to retro-style nibbles and drinks.  Think ginger beer and cucumber sandwiches, Victoria sponges and creamy trifles, scotch eggs and homemade lemonade. If you’re hosting a party of this kind why not start by browsing the gorgeous Vintage Tea Party Book by Angel Adoree. It’s packed with ideas for old-fashioned food and drink, for both afternoon and evening events, and also includes a section on styling so you can add some extra sparkle to your table setting and décor.

But even if your party is firmly rooted in the 21st Century, the Keep Calm and Party On pieces still work perfectly. Just remember: whatever style and setting you decide on be sure to take our advice –  Keep Calm and enjoy yourself!
